Avedas acquired by Thomson Reuters
Karlsruhe-based Avedas AG, the manufacturer of the Converis Current Research Information System (CRIS), has been acquired by Thomson Reuters, in a highly expected re-alignment of the research information management market following Elsevier's acquisition of Atira last year. The large Converis customer basis in the UK and Continental Europe will now have the opportunity to enjoy deeper integration with TR InCites as a result, while Thomson Reuters will become more involved in euroCRIS activity.
Open Access Law passed in Argentina
The Law 26.899 on "Digital Open Access Institutional Repositories" has been passed this December by the Argentinian Congress. This Law contains an Open Access mandate for the dissemination of research publications and data resulting from publicly-funded projects carried out at public institutions and organisations which are part of the National System for Research, Technology and Innovation (SNCTI). Embargo periods of 6 months and 5 years are respectively set for research articles and data, and non-compliance with the requirements will result in non-eligibility for public research funding.
SCOAP3 Starting Jan 1st
The CERN-based Sponsoring Consortium for Open Access in Particle Physics Publishing (SCOAP3) Project is to launch next January. SCOAP3 is a pioneering community-funded approach to Gold Open Access in the field of High-Energy Physics, where a few journals collect most of the outputs in the area. Partners from 24 countries will support the initiative, whose outcome will be offered from a SCOAP3 repository.
