SPARC Europe responds to the Finch Report
On Jul 11th SPARC Europe released its response to the Finch Report made publicly available a month earlier by the Working Group on Expanding Access to Published Research Findings. Under the title "A thumbs up for Open Access, but an expensive way of getting there", SPARC Europe's answer to the Report critizices the unacknowledgement of "the achievement of UK repositories and their promise for the future".
OR2012 in Edinburgh
The 7th edition of the annual Open Repositories conference (OR2012) is held in Edinburgh on Jul 9-13th. The crowded event programme features the latest advances and initiatives in the areas of Open Access repositories, Research Data Management or repository services, to mention but a few. The University of Edinburgh host over 450 delegates along the biggest OR event to date.
Open Access policies "grow teeth"
It's not unusual to hear within the open access community that open access policies would be far more effective if funders "gave them some teeth" (meaning monitoring compliance and establishing mechanisms for non-compliance prevention). The Wellcome Trust, which has so often pioneered open access progress, has recently announced it will adopt measures to ensure authors comply with its open access policy.
