Berlin9 Open Access Conference to be held Nov 9-10th at HHMI
Eight years after the Berlin Declaration on Open Access was issued at the Max Planck Society (MPG) in Berlin, the Berlin9 Open Access Conference will be held in Washington D.C. on Nov 9-10. Organised by SPARC, MPG, ARL, HHMI, and MBL at Woods Hole, the Conference -which is held in the US for the 1st time- will examine the impact that Open Access can have in advancing the conduct and communication of research and scholarship, with a particular focus on the impact this can have on the public (see conference programme).
euroCRIS autumn 2011 Membership Meeting
Next euroCRIS membership meeting (autumn 2011) will be held Nov 2-3 at the Charles de Gaulle University of Lille 3, Villeneuve d'Ascq, Lille, France. The meeting programme includes a discussion on potential CERIF application to transfer of research into education and an unpdate of the most recent progresses in CERIF and CRIS implementation in different environments.
New Open Access repository at Universidad Pública de Navarra (UPNA)
On Wed Oct 26th, in the framework of the activities organised along the Open Access Week 2011, the new Académica-e Open Access repository was released at the Public University of Navarra (Universidad Pública de Navarra, UPNA). DSpace-based Académica-e hosts at release time over 2200 final year projects available full-text, to which new contents will be shortly added.
Open Access Week 2011 activity map
OAW2010 activity map was offered after the Open Access Week had finished. This year however, both Jennifer McLennan (SPARC) and Benjamin Hennig (Wordmapper Project & University of Sheffield, UK) agreed to try to provide and process the data before OAW2011 was actually held. The OAW2011 activity map shows a weighted picture of the world according to the number of planned activities to be organised by country along forthcoming Open Access Week (Oct 24-30, 2011).
GrandIR activities at the Open Access Week
After a very successful 2010 edition (see the OAW2010 activity map), SPARC is once again organising Open Access Week 2011 from Oct 24th to Oct 30th. Lots of Open Access dissemination activities will again take place worldwide, and GrandIR will take part in some of them: there will be a presentation on Oct 26th at the Open Access Africa 2011 Conference on the OASCIR project being presently carried out at the University of Khartoum in Sudan and on Oct 27th the talk "Promoting Open Access at a supra-institutional level" will be delivered at the Open Access Peru event in Lima.
DSpace@ScienceUofK is now LIVE
The first Sudanese Institutional Repository has been released today and is now openly available. GrandIR-developed DSpace@ScienceUofK repository is the result of the EIFL-funded OASCIR project for carrying out an Open Access awareness-raising campaign at the Faculty of Science, University of Khartoum and setting up an institutional repository for serving researchers and professors with this affiliation.
